Mission

Increase the access, retention, and graduation rates of underrepresented minority (URM) males.

Excel Scholars is open to all CSUB students with an interest in supporting and advancing the potential of undergraduate men of color.  All eligible students are encouraged to apply and participate. Excel Scholars does not consider sex, gender or any other protected status as part of the application and selection process.

Goals

  • Be a school of choice for Kern County URM males.
  • Be a model CSU campus for retaining URM males.
  • Eliminate the URM male equity gap.

First-Year Mentoring Program:

The Excel Scholars First-Year Mentoring Program at CSUB aims to support the successful transition and holistic development of first-year men of color students.

Through this program, students are paired with dedicated CSUB faculty or staff members who will provide guidance and support to help them achieve their educational, professional, and personal goals. The program empowers students to thrive academically, professionally, and socially by creating positive relationships and fostering a sense of belonging.
