Jeanne Clery Act

The Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics (20 U.S.C. Section 1092), most commonly referred to as the Clery Act, requires colleges and universities receiving federal financial assistance to disclose crime statistics and security information. In an effort to increase campus awareness and safety, the Clery Act requires distribution of an annual campus security report to employees and students that include statistics for the previous three years concerning crimes on campus; in California State University (CSU) off campus buildings or property; and on public property within or near the campus, including reports on alcohol and drug use, sexual assault and policies concerning campus security and crime prevention.

Clery Annual Security Report (ASR)

Annual Security Report (ASR): Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, the updated Annual Security Report (ASR) is now available for viewing. The ASR contains the current security and safety-related policy statements, emergency preparedness and evacuation information, crime prevention and Sexual Assault prevention information, and information about drug and alcohol prevention programming. The ASR also contains statistics of Clery crimes for CSUB for this calendar year, based on the preceding three years.

Annual Fire Safety Report (AFSR)

Annual Fire Safety Report (AFSR): Pursuant to Higher Education Opportunity Act, the Annual Fire Safety Report (AFSR) is now available for viewing. The ASFR report discloses statistics for fires that occurred within CSU Bakersfield housing facilities for 2021, 2022, and 2023, and contains fire safety policies and procedures intended to promote safety on campus. The report also distributes fire safety policies and procedures intended to promote safety on campus.

A paper copy of the ASR and AFSR combined report is available upon request.

What Is the Role of a CSA?

The Clery Act requires the University to identify individuals that meet the definition of a Campus Security Authority (“CSA”). A CSA is someone who has significant responsibility for student and campus activities, such as a student resident advisor, a faculty advisor to a student group, and a Title IX Coordinator.
