Explore Campus Academic Resources

CSUB offers a wide range of academic resources to support your success throughout your educational journey. Use the sections below to explore various services and tools available on campus, from tutoring and advising to libraries and technology support. Simply click on each category to learn more about the resources that can help you achieve your academic goals.

California Promise Pledge Program

  1. California Promise program
 is a degree pledge program at CSUB that enables new students to earn a degree in no more than two years (for Associate Degree for Transfer Students), or no more than four years (for new First-Time First-Year Students). Students who participate in the pledge program are provided with a dedicated academic advisor and priority registration for each enrollment period. In return, participating students must meet with their pledge advisor as prescribed, develop and follow their academic plan, maintain good academic standing, and complete 30-semester units each academic year.

Campus Advocate

The Campus Advocate and Education Coordinator provides confidential non-judgmental support service, emotional support, advocacy, information and referrals to students, faculty, and staff. If you or someone you care about has been a victim of sexual assault, domestic violence or stalking and would like to speak to someone confidentially, please contact the Campus Advocate.

Children’s Center

The Children's Center is now operated by Cal Ivy Prep. The Center is open and accepting applications. For more information, please contact us via phone at 661 654-3165 or email us at director@calivyprep.org.

Center for Career Education and Community Engagement (CECE)

Center for Career Education and Community Engagement (CECE) serves students, alumni, community partners, employers, and university personnel. We invite you to review this site and encourage you to contact CECE for more information about service learning, academic and paid internships, and community centered projects!

Counseling Center

The primary purpose of the CSUB Counseling Center is to assist students with personal and educational problems, developmental issues and for any other concern that may affect them as they pursue their educational goals. Programs are planned in order that services will meet the needs of students in the university setting.

Credential Program - Teacher Education

The Teacher Education credential preparation programs prepare highly qualified professionals to create diverse, inclusive, and equitable K-12 public school classrooms. By applying an integrated approach to theory and practice our teacher candidates build skills and rapport with our education community partners.

Teacher credential preparation programs are accredited by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) and we are member in good standing of Association for Advancing Quality in Educator Preparation (AAQEP), a national accrediting organization recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

Dean of Students

The Dean of Students supports the university’s mission by developing the personal and intellectual potential of all students. We foster this through developmental learning, placing value for integrity and self-reflection, and encouraging responsible behavior. By upholding the Student Conduct Code, we create a healthy living and learning environment that empowers students to be ethical leaders.

Dreamers Resource Center

The CSUB Dreamers Resource Center (DRC)  is dedicated to providing support and resources for students who are undocumented, AB-540 recipients, DACA recipients, or from mixed-status families. The Dreamers Resource Center staff can assist with DACA renewals, AB-540 applications, CA Dream Act Application (CADA), and any other supporting documents. Furthermore, the DRC staff assists students with any questions they may have regarding their immigration status or the legal status of family members. As a center, we strive to cultivate a sense of belonging by providing students with programming and services that will enhance their college experience and help foster lifelong success.

Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)

Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) in compliance with the Federal Family Education Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA), prohibits the University from providing certain information from your student records, such as information on registration, grades, billing, tuition and fees assessments, financial aid (including scholarships, grants, work-study, or loan amounts) and other student record information to a third party. This restriction applies, but is not limited, to your parents, your spouse, or a sponsor. 

You may, at your discretion, grant the University permission to release information about your student records to a third party by clicking the 'Authorize to Release' link in the Personal Information section of your myCSUB account. The specified information will be made available only if requested by the authorized third party. The University does not automatically send information to a third party. 

Please note that you will set the expiration date for the authorization, and you may revoke your authorization online at any time by updating the authorization in your myCSUB account.  NOTE: For the third party designee you name on this form, this release overrides all FERPA directory suppression information that you have set up in your student record. It is University policy not to release certain aspects of student records (e.g., registration, grades, GPA) over the phone or via email.

Food Pantry

The Food Pantry goals are to increase food security, reduce food waste, and expand nutritional offerings at CSU Bakersfield.

Helen Louise Hawk Honors Program

The mission of the Helen Louise Hawk Honors Program at California State University, Bakersfield is to recruit and retain the very best students throughout our service region and beyond by enrolling them in a series of stimulating classes taught by the university's top professors; involve them in a strongly supportive academic and social environment that will sustain them throughout their college careers; and to help them move on after graduation into graduate programs and/or career choices through which they will become happy, successful, and productive contributors to the communities in which they live and work.

Housing

In support of the University's mission and core values, CSUB Student Housing strives to be an integral part of the academic success of its students, both intellectually and through personal development. Through intentional programming, responsible stewardship of facilities, finances, resources, we create a dynamic and heartfelt space to learn and grow, producing conscientious, well-rounded citizens within and beyond the Housing community.

Information Technology (IT) Student Tools

Student Technology Equity Program (STEP)

For students who do not have access to technology for their CSUB education, they can to be considered for a free loaner laptop, tablet, or Wi-Fi hotspot through CSUB STEP.

Graduate Student Center (GSC)

The Graduate Student Center (GSC) serves all prospective, current, and past (alum) graduate students in an effort to help them reach their professional goals via a Doctoral degree, Master’s degree, second Bachelor’s degree, post Baccalaureate degree, and/or Credential program at California State University, Bakersfield (CSUB).

Kegley Center for Student Success

The Kegley Center for Student Success staff aims to foster a culture of academic success and personal development. We will inspire and encourage our student-athletes to become leaders in society by representing CSUB Athletics, CSU Bakersfield and the community with honor and integrity.

LGBTQ+ Safe Zone

The purpose of the Safe Zone program is to establish a University-wide network of easily visible allies who can provide support, information, and assistance to lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender students at CSUB.  

Allies are trustworthy, knowledgeable, and sensitive people who can provide a safe and nondiscriminatory environment on campus for members of the LGBT community.  Allies are faculty, staff, and administrators who have attended the Safe Zone Ally Orientation and agreed to be visible allies of the LGBT community on campus.

Library

The Walter W. Stiern Library has something for everyone. Our comprehensive collection of digital and print resources supports every major at CSUB. Our building offers collaborative spaces, group study rooms, and silent spaces on the upper levels. We also provide a 24/7 chat service that allows students to ask for research help any day of the week at any time. If there's something we don't have in our collection, we are happy to get it for you through our resource sharing service. Be sure to have a look at our research guides and feel free to make an appointment with your subject librarian whenever you need extra help.

Multicultural Alliance and Gender Equity Center (MAGEC)

The Multicultural Alliance and Gender Equity Center (MAGEC) is a division of Student Affairs that aims to uplift, validate and support students of all cultural backgrounds, religious beliefs, sexual orientations, and gender identities.

Ombudsperson

The Ombudsperson is available to meet with any CSUB Student who has a concern or complaint about the University. The Ombudsperson is an objective mediator who helps resolve conflicts that arise from disagreement and acts as the liaison between students and the University.

The Ombudsperson helps solve problems informally, confidentially and impartially.

Pregnancy Accommodations and Lactation Rooms

Title IX prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex — including pregnancy, parenting and all related conditions — in education and in programs and activities that receive federal funding. If you are a pregnant or parenting student, you have the right to stay in school so you can meet your education and career goals. Visit the Pregnant and Parenting Student Rights website to know your rights and view the current nursing rooms.

Program Pathways Mapper

The Program Pathways Mapper (PPM) is a tool used to clarify the pathways to graduation for native CSUB students and transfers. At-a-glance the Program Map displays general education, major and elective courses needed to graduate with a bachelor’s degree.

Project Rebound

CSU Bakersfield's Project Rebound program supports the success of the formerly incarcerated by offering the opportunity and resources needed to successfully transition and acclimate to a college campus. The program is an alternative to the revolving door policy of the criminal justice system, and instead encourages students to excel in a course of study. The program offers special admissions for those who might not normally qualify for university acceptance due to application deadlines and minor academic deficiencies. Project Rebound recognizes the importance of access to a quality education for all and assists motivated individuals to prepare, apply, enroll, and graduate with a university degree.

Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD)

The Mission of Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD) is to provide support services that enable every student, regardless of disability, to have access to a University education at CSU Bakersfield.

Student Health Services (SHS)

CSUB’s Student Health Services (SHS) gives enrolled students access to basic health care through: physicians; nurse practitioners and nurses; and in-house clinical laboratory and pharmacy services. Student fees support the facility and provide many basic services--which are available at little or no cost to CSUB students. As a nationally accredited Ambulatory Health Clinic, SHS provides quality medical care that is accessible and affordable.

Tutoring

Tutoring is available to CSUB students in many subject areas. You may need just some extra help with a subject or have a class concept explained a little differently to you. Tutoring is available, and it's free.

Veterans Success Center

The Veterans Success Center is responsible for working with the CSU community and the Veterans Administration to ensure certified veterans are receiving their benefits. The Veteran Success Center provides on-campus resources to the veteran community and participates in student engagement activities throughout the year.
