Featured Speaker: Jeff Moffit
The MST conference includes a special group of Featured Speakers and Performers this year. Each of our speakers combine Math, Technolgy, or Science with the Arts in a unique way
Dr. Jeff Moffit is an Assistant Professor in the Physical Education and Kinesiology (PEAK) Department at CSUB. Jeff, CSUB’s own Ironman, will present one of the two lunch sessions. He will speak about the role of technology in the production of the Ironman Triathlon World Championships. Dr. Moffit competed in and successfully completed this, the most famous Ironman of them all, on October 19 in Hawaii. He will tell us how high-tech devices keep track of all runners in real time on the internet during the race, how he collects and interprets mathematical data as he trains, and will share with us the trials an amateur has attempting to “peak” for and recover from the Ironman.
Dr. Moffit will also provide a regular session during which he will present techniques for experiencing the principles of physics using practical examples from dance, sport, and human movement.
