Special session:  The Farside of Science: Rumors and Other Sound Bytes for Teaching Science

This session is presented by the famous H3 team: Hanley, Hopkins, and Hughes.  With a focus on the physics of sound, this presentation will demonstrate simple science activities for teaching integrated science.  All activities address the California Science Standards integrated with math, language arts, and social studies.

David Hanley is a biology instructor who has also instituted a science literacy program in which, for insignificant monetary outlay, demonstrations or labs are performed every day of the school year.

Mike Hopkins is a motivator, magician, businessman, and a mentor math teacher for the Kern High School District.

Ron Hughes has 23 years of science education experience and is an expert in the use of discrepant events for science instruction and motivation.

Together H3 has been successfully presenting as a team for nearly ten years at local and state conferences.
