Graduation

All students must apply online for graduation. This will initiate the graduation evaluation process. Once undergraduate students have completed 84 semester units, a link to apply online for graduation will be available on their myCSUB Student Center. In addition, students will receive an email notification that they may be eligible to apply for graduation. Post-baccalaureate students will receive the same communication once they have completed 15 semester units. Before applying for graduation, review your academic requirements with your academic advisor. Undergraduate and Post-baccalaureate students should confirm that they are within two semesters of completing all remaining graduation requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions

What If the "Apply for Graduation" Link Is Unavailable on My Student Center?

Once undergraduate students have completed 84 semester units, a link to apply online for graduation will be available on their myCSUB Student Center. In addition, students will receive an email notification that they may be eligible to apply for graduation. Post-baccalaureate students will receive the same communication once they have completed 15 semesters.

What If the Graduation Term I Want Is Not Available, or I Missed the Deadline to Apply?

To request a term that is not available, or submit a late application, contact your academic advisor to determine your eligibility.

How Do I Change My Major, Minor, And/or Catalog Year?

Any changes to your major, minor, and/or catalog year should be updated prior to submission of your application for graduation. If changes need to be made, see your academic advisor.

How Much Is the Graduation Fee?

After you have successfully submitted your application, you will be required to pay the application fee of $70.00 online through your myCSUB or in person at the Cashier's window. Once the fee is submitted, your application will be reviewed.

What If I Submit My Application but Do Not Pay the Fee Immediately?

If you submit the application without paying the $70 fee, you will receive email notifications. Not submitting the fee will delay your response time. It may also impact your ability to request official transcripts and receive your diploma in a timely manner.

What Happens After I Apply for Graduation?

The graduation evaluation processing time is approximately 6-8 weeks. You will receive an email confirmation that your application has been received. The Office of the Registrar will verify that the $70 application fee has been paid. An evaluation of your progress towards graduation will be completed, and an email response will be sent for you to review your graduation status.

Why Does My Response List Courses I Am Currently Enrolled In?

Courses are not considered complete until grades are posted to your transcript at the end of the term.

Can I Move Credit Not Used to Fulfill the Baccalaureate Degree to Post-Baccalaureate Credit?

Courses taken and passed satisfactorily by a student that are not needed to fulfill baccalaureate degree requirements may be requested as postbaccalaureate credit. The courses for which the student is requesting postbaccalaureate credit must be taken in the semester of graduation.Liberal Studies students and advisors may request postbaccalaureate credit for credential courses taken up to one semester prior to the semester of graduation. Please email graduation@csub.edu for more information.

What Do I Need to Do If I Have Not Met All of My Degree Requirements?

If your degree requirements have not been completed by the end of your expected graduation term, meet with your academic advisor to determine when your requirements will be satisfied.

How Do I Change My Diploma Name and Address?

Changes made after the last day of your graduation term may not be included in our diploma order and fees for replacement may apply.

  1. Log into myCSUB and view Student Center
  2. Select "Apply for Graduation" from the dropdown menu
  3. Click "View Graduation Status"
  4. Click "Update your Diploma Name" or Update your Diploma Address"

When Will I Get My Diploma?

Your diploma will be mailed approximately 4-6 weeks after you receive the email titled, "Congratulations! Your degree has been awarded."

How Do I Qualify for Honors?

Final calculations for academic honors are based on all work completed through the last semester attended. Students must have completed at least 40 letter-graded units at CSUB.

Honors are awarded if the student's overall grade point average (GPA) and CSUB GPA both reach the following standard:

How Honors Are Awarded
Grade Point Average (GPA) Honor Awarded
3.30-3.59 Cum Laude
3.60-3.89 Magna Cum Laude
3.90-4.00 Summa Cum Laude

Can I Retake Courses, After I Graduate, to Raise My GPA?

After you have graduated, your record is sealed. No changes will be made to academic records once the degree has been completed and conferred.
