Academic Programs

In the CSUB Department of Modern Languages and Literatures we believe that the study of other languages is essential for the twenty-first-century global citizen. Immersion in another language and culture fundamentally shapes the way one thinks. The Department offers a variety of courses and programs in second language study, literature, and culture. They meet the needs of a variety of students, including those who intend to major, minor or obtain a graduate degree in languages other than English, those who seek a broad liberal arts education, and those whose careers will be enhanced by knowledge of another language and culture. The Department's programs serve and promote all academic divisions of the University in providing students fundamental linguistic and cultural training to engage in intercultural and international endeavors.
