Student Technology Equity Program (STEP)

  • For students who do not have access to technology for their CSUB education, complete this application to be considered for a free loaner laptop/tablet.
  • CSUB STEP is accepting applications while supplies last.
  • For any questions or to submit an application, please contact csubstep@csub.edu or call the Service Center at 661-654-4357.

ITS Support Hours and Contact Information

  • Service Center Walk-Up support hours are from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm Monday through Friday.
  • Service Center Phone Support is available by calling 654-HELP (4375). Hours are 7:00 am - 6:00 pm, Monday through Thursday, and 7:00 am - 5:00 pm on Fridays.
  • Lab A (located in the lower level of the library) is open from 8:00 am - 8:00 pm, Monday through Thursday, and 8:00 am - 5:00 pm on Fridays.
  • The Lab A computer lab is OPEN. Students can go to vcl.csub.edu and log in to the virtual computer lab using their CSUB user name and password.

Student Computer Minimum Standards (CSUB recommends)

  • PC or Mac laptop with at least an i5 processor, AMD equivalent, or i3 with high clock speeds above 3.4 GHz minimum
  • RAM: 8 GB minimum, 16 GB recommended
  • 256 GB hard drive
  • Webcam (built in or stand-alone)
  • Wi-fi adapter
  • Headset

Student Connectivity Minimum Standards (CSUB recommends)

  • Broadband connection able to provide a minimum of 10 megabits per second (mbps) download and 5 mbps upload, a hotspot or cell phone capable of tethering would also work.
    • Please note: if you have multiple people in your household using the internet connection simultaneously, please consider if you will need higher bandwidth needs.
  • If you would like to test the speed of your internet connection, visit www.speedtest.net.

External WiFi Access

In an effort to maintain social distancing requirements, CSUB students are able to use Eduroam to access WiFi from the safety of their vehicles. Locations, where students can use Eduroam in their vehicle, are indicated in the campus map with blue rectangles.

Communication

Email

Purpose: Quickly contact students, faculty, and staff

  • O365 - Outlook email - Used to send and receive email, calendar, manage contacts, and tasks.
  • Canvas email - Easily communicate via email with professors within the Learning Management System.
  • Campus Announcements - Notifications and alerts for campus community.

Live Communication

Purpose: Communicate with students remotely in real-time.

  • Zoom - Real time video conferencing for one-to-one and one-to-many conferences including screen sharing, chat, and recording.

Collaboration and Document Sharing

Purpose: Communicate with anyone on documents and access files remotely.

  • Box - Online (Cloud) document sharing and collaboration.
  • Box Quick Guide - How to guide to using Box.

PDF Creation

Purpose: Create PDF documents for email or online submission of course materials.

  • MS Office Lens - Used on mobile devices (iOS - Android) to convert photos of documents into PDFs.

Course Materials

Lectures and Reading

Purpose: Provide self-directed learning content.

  • Canvas - Support - Full list of Knowledge articles and How-Tos for many common tasks.

Academic Integrity

Purpose: Provide faculty and students the ability to check for plagiarism and academic integrity.

  • Turnitin - Check papers for plagiarism/academic integrity.
  • MyLabsPlus - Submit papers for feedback and editing.
