Environmental Resource Management
The Environmental Resource Management (ERM) major is an interdisciplinary program that prepares students to tackle today's most pressing environmental challenges. Offered through the College of Business and Public Administration, the ERM program combines science, policy, and practical skills to equip students for careers in environmental management and sustainability. The program also builds essential skills in communication, statistics, management, and computer applications, ensuring students are well-prepared for a variety of professional settings.
Students study a wide range of topics including:
(1) Natural and physical sciences that explore how we use and conserve environmental resources.
(2) Environmental law and policy that govern the ownership and regulation of resources.
(3) Economic and political systems that influence environmental protection and resource allocation.
(4) Occupational safety and environmental health that address the impacts of resource use on people and communities.
Graduates of the ERM program go on to work in both public and private sectors. They pursue careers in resource analysis and planning, environmental compliance, sustainability consulting, real estate development, and workplace safety. Many also find roles with government agencies such as the United States Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management.
ERM students tailor their studies by selecting a concentration aligned with their interests and career goals. Concentrations include:
-Forestry
-Environmental Health
-Land Use Policy and Planning
-Occupational Safety and Health
The Occupational Safety and Health concentration is supported by an endowment from Aera Energy LLC, highlighting the strong demand for professionals in workplace safety and offering excellent opportunities for internships and career placement.
Internships are strongly encouraged for all ERM students. These experiences provide valuable exposure to the field, help students build connections, and prepare them to lead in their communities and industries.
