What We Do

The department of public affairs and communications promotes the mission of CSU Bakersfield through the communication of news and information about the university - its achievements, programs and people - to our many constituent groups. The office is responsible for overseeing communication with a wide variety of audiences through publicity, public relations, publications, online systems, and other marketing efforts that uphold the image, integrity and mission of the university. Our projects are prioritized based on the university's mission and the potential impact on the university's institutional image.

A part of the division of University Advancement, the department manages projects ranging from the creation of marketing and informational publications to organization of major media and public relations activities. The office publishes Your CSUB magazine, the alumni magazine, and major institutional publications; manages media relations; and serves as a professional communications resource for students, faculty and the administration. We invite you to browse the pages of our website where you'll find the most current CSUB information, learn about upcoming events, view recent publications and see how to effectively use CSUB's visual graphic identity system.

By raising CSUB's visibility, the department of public affairs and communications helps the university attract and retain a diverse, pool of academically talented applicants and students. Effective visibility efforts also attract and retain top faculty members while garnering the respect and support of donors and other philanthropic entities.
