Frequently Asked Questions

How Do I Submit My Printing Job to the Printshop?

All orders can be submitted by filling out this form and emailing it printshop@csub.edu. Orders typically take 2-3 business days when submitting online. If you need your order sooner, please contact the print shop at 661-654-2272.

What Graphics File Format Is Best to Use?

PDF format is always ideal for printing. For photo prints, we recommend the formats: .PSD, TIFF or EPS. (note: although .jpg is popular it is a low resolution compressed file for use on the web only and does NOT print well)

Can I Submit the Proof I Received from the Graphic Arts Department to the Printshop for Printing?

In most cases, no. Please check with the Graphic Arts Department to make sure your proof is a high quality PDF and has been fully processed. There are many steps that must be taken to make your file print ready.

Most proofs are low quality to reduce file size for email purposes.

Can I Produce My Own University Letterhead, Envelopes and Business Cards?

No. The CSUB Printshop works with Public Affairs to maintain a unified look for the overall campus; all stationery (printed and electronic) is only to be produced by the CSUB Print Shop.

Which Paper Would Be Best for My Job?

It’s a good idea to know what kind of paper you’ll be printing on before you design your project, that way you can tailor your design to match the paper and finish. A sleek design might be best suited to a smooth paper while paper with a silk or matte finish might be better for a subtle theme.

We would be happy to provide you with a free paper sample before you settle on one so you can get a feel for it.

Some things to keep in mind are:
  • Matte stocks are a good choice for a more subtle appeal, and suggest exclusivity
  • Paper stocks with a gloss finish are well-suited for grabbing attention; gloss helps colorful designs pop off the page
  • When printing in color it is not advisable to use a color paper. White paper is best for most applications, since color can be printed.
  • Gloss paper tends to smear when written on so this type of paper should not be used for forms or brochures that include a form

The only other official colors that can be used for CSUB designs/logos are white and black.

If your document is NOT print ready, the CSUB Print Shop will charge a fee to make your document print ready.
