Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs

Dr. Jenny J. Zorn joined CSU Bakersfield in July 2015 as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs.  Since her arrival she has established a focus on diversity and inclusion with several initiatives such as:  cultural affinity groups for faculty and staff, a women’s affinity group, a retired faculty association, a chapter of Phi Beta Delta honor society for international scholars, expanding the Veterans Center, sending a delegation of students to the national Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) conference, sponsoring faculty and staff at the American Association of Hispanics in Higher Education and the American Association of Blacks in Higher Education, and launching a First Generation Initiative.   

Provost Zorn is respected in her discipline for her work on gender diversity issues and currently serves on the Association of American Geographers (AAG) Committee for Healthy Departments Initiative and served on the Committee on Diversity.  She has served in various leadership positions including President of the California Geographical Society, President of the Association of Pacific Coast Geographers, Secretary of the AAG, and President of the California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB) chapters of Phi Kappa Phi and Phi Beta Delta.  She has been a champion for veterans’ initiatives and the Accessible Technology Initiative for students with disabilities. She received the Distinguished Teaching Award from the National Council on Geographic Education and other outstanding teaching and service awards.  Active in her community, she has served in numerous leadership roles in philanthropic organizations including President of the National Charity League and President of the Redlands East Valley Aquatics Board.  Currently she serves on the Bakersfield Sister City Board, Kern County Literacy Council, the United Way Board, and the Women’s Leadership Council of the United Way.

Prior to coming to CSUB Provost Zorn served as Interim Provost at Humboldt State University and Associate Provost for Academic and International Programs at CSUSB.  She earned a B.A. degree from Flagler College and M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in Geography from The Ohio State University.  As a Geography Professor her research has focused on women in the labor force, geographic education, and international education. 

She and her husband, Andy Copeland are proud parents of two CSU alumni: daughter Michelle Copeland, Sonoma State University and son Mark Copeland, CSU Long Beach and CSU San Bernardino; and daughter-in-law Sarah Copeland, an alum of CSU Fullerton and CSU San Bernardino.
