About HEP

Program Overview

Operating since 2010, the High School Equivalency Program (HEP) at California State University, Bakersfield is one of fifty HEP Programs federally funded through a competitive grant process by the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Migrant Education.

HEP is an educational program designed to assist 80 migrant and seasonal farmworkers and members of their immediate family to complete their high school equivalency and, subsequently, gain improved employment, begin post-secondary studies, or enroll in a vocational training program.

HEP at CSU, Bakersfield is one of 11 HEP Programs in the State of California and the only project providing these specialized services in the Southern San Joaquin Valley. CSUB-HEP is on its third consecutive funding cycle through 2025. CSUB-HEP has met or exceeded national performance targets for four consecutive years.
