On April 21, the San Joaquin Geological Society hosted its annual student night, this year at Lengthwise Brewing. Geology students from CSUB and Cal State Fresno presented research posters.
CSUB graduate students Rosa Valdez and Ryan Tengelsen presented their research. Rosa showed her results modeling the lead-up to the 2011 Japan earthquake and Ryan discussed his experiences on a research cruise ship. Undergraduate students Brooklyn Macross and Christian Herda presented their work on a contract with the California Air Resources Board documenting carbon capture and storage projects in California. Salvador Osorio-Martinez discussed his project modeling the deformation at Kilauea volcano associated with the recent lava fountain eruptions. Virpal Kaur and Alessa Linares also presented about their research on marine microfossils. The students discussed their projects and results with professional scientists who are SJGS members.
In addition, nine CSUB students received scholarships of $1000 each! Those happy recipients were recognized during the dinner meeting. Altogether, it was a fun night for everyone!
