Dr. Anna Cruz, in partnership with researchers from the University of Delaware and National Taiwan University, has published a new study using neodymium (Nd) isotopes to trace past precipitation variability in the western tropical Pacific. The research shows how shifts in tropical rainfall over the last 30,000 years controlled the transfer of material from land to ocean, identifying the Solomon Sea as a key archive of past ITCZ movement and highlighting the value of Nd isotopes for reconstructing tropical climate change.
