Respondus Lockdown Browser
Respondus Monitor is available in the campus learning management systems at no cost to the students or campus departments. It can be used to help prevent cheating and maintain academic integrity for online exams.
This option has two main features for remotely proctoring tests students take at home:
- Respondus Lockdown Browser (No web cam required): Prevents students from accessing other resources on their computer during tests, like web browsers, calculators, Word, Excel, computer shortcut keys, and more.
- Respondus Monitor with Lockdown Browser (Web cam required): Prevents students form accessing other computer resources during tests and passively records students with a web camera video faculty can review after the test has been submitted.
It is important to know that this option is NOT REQUIRED for all online exams – it is an option for faculty that want to deter students from cheating during high-stake exams. Please remember that if the Respondus Monitor option is used, a web cam will be required for all students taking the exam. If a web camera cannot be expected to be available for all students in your course, the Respondus Lockdown Browser option can still be used.
