Teach Grant

TEACHER EDUCATION ASSISTANCE (TEACH)

The Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) Grant Program is a federally funded grant awarded by the Department of Education. It provides up to $4,000 per year to students who are studying to become a teacher and commit to teach a high-need subject at a designated low-income school after graduation. 

Eligibility Requirements

To Receive a TEACH Grant You Must:
  • Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). 
  • Be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen. 
  • Maintaining a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25.
  • Must complete the CSUB Teach Grant Request Form
  • Once reveiwed and awarded, complete a TEACH Grant Initial and Subsequent Counseling and Agreement to Serve or Repay Agreement each year you receive the grant.
  • Complete TEACH Exit Counseling by last quarter of enrollment or attendance.
  • Be enrolled in a TEACH Grant-eligible program. 
  • Awards will be pro-rated based on enrollment. 
  • Awards will not be disbursed until after Census Day each term when enrollment is certified.

 

As a Condition for Receiving a TEACH Grant, You Must Agree to (among other requirements):
  • Teach in a high-need field
    • Mathematics
    • Science
    • Special Education
    • Bilingual Education
  • Or in a teacher shortage area in California and in the following subjects:
    • English
    • Social Science
  • Teach at an elementary school, secondary school, or educational service agency that serves low-income students and is listed in the Department of Education Annual Directory of Low-Income Schools for Teacher Cancellation Benefits; and
  • Teach for at least four complete academic years within eight years after completing (or ceasing enrollment in) the course of study for which you received the grant.

 

If you do not meet the requirements of your service obligation, all TEACH Grants you received will be converted to Direct Unsubsidized Loans. You must repay these loans in full, with interest charged from the date of each TEACH Grant disbursement. Click HERE for more information about this program.
