Receiving Aid

Eligibility Requirements
Each aid program has its own eligibility requirements, such as financial need or state of residency.
Enrollment Requirements
To be eligible for most types of financial aid disbursements, students must have at least half-time enrollment by term.
Award Notifications
Financial aid awards are packaged in a predetermined sequence, such as Gift Aid being sequenced above Self-help Aid.
Resources for Students with Dependents
Students with eligible dependents may qualify for additional financial aid considerations.
Census Day Repackaging
A common practice in the CSU system (and nationwide) is to recalculate student financial aid awards based on changes in the student's enrollment as of a designated "freeze date" each term.
Credit Balance Refund Schedule
Once aid is disbursed into the applicant's university account, it will be credited toward any outstanding tuition fees or charges.
Direct Deposit
CSUB has instituted a Direct Deposit process to deliver financial aid refunds in a more timely and secure manner.
Disbursement
Once students have been awarded and accepted financial aid, it will be disbursed into their CSUB student account for the corresponding term.
Holds on Aid
Financial aid disbursement holds do not prohibit a student from registering for classes.
Know Your Limits
Review the CSUB Know Your Limits brochure to better assist you in understanding the various limits associated with your financial aid.
Need
Need is calculated by subtracting a student's Student Aid Index (SAI) from their Cost of Attendance (COA).
Repeat Coursework
Federal student aid regulations limit the number of times certain students may repeat a course and receive financial aid for that course.
Satisfactory Academic Progress
Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) for students must include a qualitative component, quantitative component (referred to as the student's Pace), and maximum unit/time frame.
Special Circumstances
The request for consideration of a special circumstance is a type of appeal, in which the financial aid office's decision is final.
Withdrawal
If you decide to leave CSUB, you must follow the Withdrawal from the Term Policy as outlined in the Campus Catalog.
