Academic Advising

Meeting with your academic advisor is integral to being a successful student at CSUB.

Freshman, Sophomores, and Incoming Transfers

During the Academic Advising period, freshmen, sophomores, and incoming transfers will participate in advising sessions with the SSE Advising Center. Please contact the SSE Advising Center at (661) 654-6807 or sseadvising@csub.edu to sign up.

Juniors and Seniors

You are strongly encouraged to contact your assigned Faculty Advisor by email to schedule an advising appointment prior to the beginning of the Academic Advising period. After achieving junior status, or 60 units or more, students should plan on meeting with a Faculty Advisor each term for advising until they complete the degree requirements. You can locate your Faculty Advisor using myCSUB. Their name will be listed in the bottom right corner of your home page.

Antelope Valley Students

Antelope Valley students should contact the AV Campus Academic Advisor, Lea Antone at lantone@csub.edu for advising appointments. Dr. Melanie Taylor is also available for academic advising at mtaylor44@csub.edu.

Important Dates

The importance of being advised and knowing when your enrollment appointment begins cannot be overstated. Failure to receive advising can result in holds that block your ability to enroll and/or delays in completing your degree. Postponing enrollment can result in your required courses being full and limits your opportunities to assemble a class schedule that works with your overall schedule, which can also slow your degree progression.

The Academic Calendar is a useful tool to keep you on track. The Academic Calendar has many important dates, which include when Academic Advising and the Enrollment periods begin.

You can see the specific date and time of your Enrollment Appointment in myCSUB. This information is located on the right-hand side of your homepage.

Please note that most Faculty Advisors are not available for advising during winter and summer breaks, which means you will likely experience slower response times from advisors that are present if you postpone advising.
