Students enrolled at CSU Bakersfield will receive emergency grants to help address the hardships caused by the coronavirus pandemic and to continue their education. The grants follow three rounds of federal and CSUB support, issued to students during the spring 2020 and spring and summer 2021 semesters.

A total of 10,572 students were identified as eligible for emergency financial aid grants in fall 2021.

Student Eligibility Fall 2021

All students enrolled in Fall 2021 at CSU Bakersfield as of September 20, 2021 are eligible for emergency financial aid grants in Fall 2021. CSU Bakersfield has identified three subsets of its student population:

  1. Students with the greatest financial need, who receive maximum state and/or federal aid
  2. Students with moderate financial need
  3. All other students without regard to prior state and/or federal aid received

Students with the greatest financial need. These students were identified using a combination of existing measures of high financial need, based on 2021-2022 FAFSA/CA Dream Act documents (including maximum Pell award recipient, Estimated Family Contribution of $0, etc.) Students in this category were eligible for the maximum award amount based on enrollment status.

Students with moderate financial need. These students were identified using a combination of existing measures of financial need, based on 2021-2022 FAFSA/CA Dream Act documents and Expected Family Contribution (EFC) less than $5,846. A proportion of students received some financial aid but also pay out of pocket for educational expenses.

All other students. These students were identified using a combination of existing measures of financial need, based on 2021-2022 FAFSA/CA Dream Act documents and Expected Family Contribution (EFC) of $5,846 or more, or who did not submit 2021-2022 FAFSA/CA Dream Act documents.

Establishment of Emergency Financial Aid Grant Amount

CSU Bakersfield established a minimum grant amount that would automatically be awarded to every enrolled student without requiring an application process. Grant aid awards were as follows:

You are eligible for this emergency financial aid grant.

WHY WAS SEPTEMBER 20, 2021, CHOSEN AS THE CUTOFF DATE FOR QUALIFYING STUDENTS?

It was the last day that a student could drop the class and not be penalized.

This enabled us to capture all enrolled students as of that date.
