Meet the Students
Ximena Aceves

Hello! My name is Ximena Aceves, and I am currently a junior at California State University, Bakersfield. My experience at CSUB has been enriching, as I’ve had the opportunity to learn from a supportive group of professors and peers who are always willing to offer guidance and help. The skills I’ve developed throughout my coursework have interested me to have a career goal of working in food safety. With diary products being a top commodity I hope to work in Dairy farms.

The Ag Business Program at CSUB is so diverse and full of life. Every professor promotes
success in their students and can help you find and give recommendations for a job
within the field. The program has its own club and very helpful resources. The Grimm
Family Center holds seminars covering different aspects of agriculture. I enjoyed
my time here in the Ag Business Program and learned about sectors of the field that
I had otherwise not known about.

I have been in the Agriculture Business program since the fall semester of 2023 and
my experience has been fantastic. The professors that teach the program are all incredibly
knowledgeable in their respective fields and, most importantly, are eager to share
their knowledge and experiences with you. Another great perk is the program doesn't
just focus on the business side of agriculture, as it requires you to take biology,
chemistry, geology, and political science courses. My career goal is to work at the
USDA, in agricultural politics/policy, or in agriculture lending, so that I can help
better the lives of our farmers and ranchers.

As a third-year student in the CSU Bakersfield Agricultural Business program, I have
the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience through both classroom activities
and outside research projects. The program has given me academic and financial support
through scholarships and mentors. The program has helped me understand agriculture
and the impacts it has on a deeper level, which is why upon graduation I aim to work
in areas that advocate and support food security, economic opportunities, and environmental
stewardship. I aim to achieve this goal by pursuing a career in either a government
agency or a local nonprofit organization that focuses on agricultural advocacy.
