Meet the Alumni

Diana Zuniga

d
Diana Zuniga, born and raised in Bakersfield, discovered her love for agriculture in high school when she joined FFA and knew she wanted to help farmers bring healthy and nutritious food to tables around the world. With a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture Business from Cal State Bakersfield, Diana entered the agriculture industry seven years ago. She currently works the frontlines diligently overseeing field scouting, drone flights, and data collection for Grimmway. For Diana, fulfillment comes from witnessing the entire crop cycle, from planting to harvest, and seeing the final product reach the table.

My journey through the Agricultural Business program at California State University Bakersfield was transformative. When I first enrolled, I had no meaningful connections within the local Ag Industry. However, this program played a pivotal role in changing that. It not only imparted valuable knowledge but also facilitated the establishment of crucial connections at all levels. I formed strong bonds with fellow students on the same career path, connected with recent graduates who generously guided me, and learned from experienced industry professionals who were also our instructors.  I managed to secure three internships and even a full-time job with respected local companies, all while still pursuing my degree. This journey culminated in a full-time job offer as an Operations Analyst & Assistant to the COO.

Hello, my name is Carolina Lopez-Murillo, and I am a proud non-traditional student pursuing my passion for agriculture. I transferred from Bakersfield College to California State University, Bakersfield, to complete my bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Business. Enrolling in the Agribusiness program has been a transformative experience, equipping me with essential skills in farm management, supply chain logistics, and agribusiness finance. Through this program, I have gained practical insights into modern agricultural practices and market trends, allowing me to make informed business decisions in the ever-evolving agricultural industry. Beyond academics, the program has provided valuable networking opportunities with industry professionals and hands-on learning experiences that have strengthened my understanding of the field. These experiences have been instrumental in expanding my knowledge and shaping my career path. My goal is to teach agricultural economics and inspire future generations to explore the vast opportunities within the agricultural sector. I am grateful for the foundation that CSUB’s Agribusiness program has given me, and I look forward to making a meaningful impact in the industry.

I’m happy to share that the AGBS program has had a significant impact on my understanding of the agricultural industry, especially in California. It really helped me grasp the interconnectedness of agriculture, from the planting process to facility processing, and ultimately to the customer’s table. The program provided me with invaluable insights into how essential agriculture is to our state’s economy and how every step in the process is vital for creating a sustainable and successful operation. I believe the AGBS program is an essential resource for anyone looking to understand the intricate dynamics of agriculture and the business side of it.

I built relationships with people who became colleagues, and got an in depth look at the agriculture sector. In the AGBS program you are part of a tight knit group of students and professors. I learned about agriculture related laws, politics, economics, safety regulations, accounting, data analytics, and so much more from professors who are passionate and have hands on knowledge of the local agriculture industry. I am thankful that I chose the AGBS program while at CSUB because it opened the door to my career as a data analyst for a major farming company.
