We welcome all CSUB students to audition for our productions, regardless of major.

On rare occasions, members of the community are cast in productions when student actors are not available. Since the goal of the Theatre program at CSUB is to provide its students with theatrical opportunities, we fill roles with students first.

Auditions for the fall mainstage production are held during the first week of classes in August, typically a Wednesday or Thursday.

Auditions for the fall Theatre for Young Audiences touring show are held in the previous spring, before registration for fall classes begins.

Auditions for the spring productions are held during the fall semester, after the fall production has closed.

Look for audition flyers posted in the theatre and in the Music Building the week before auditions.

What is the audition process like?

Almost every show will involve cold reading from the script. You will have time to look a scene over before you read for the director.

Often, cold reading is all that is required. However, for some shows, a director may request to see a monologue from auditionees, but most often this is only required of theatre majors. If you don't have a monologue, please still come and do a cold reading! For musicals, you will be expected to prepare a song from a musical so auditors can assess your singing skills. The audition flyer will tell you if anything extra is requested.
