What Is the LSAMP Program?

The National Science Foundation/California State University Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP) Program is a comprehensive statewide project dedicated to increasing the number of students from underrepresented groups graduating from the CSU with baccalaureate degrees in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines. Initiated in 1994, the CSU-LSAMP Alliance currently consists of 22 of the 23 campuses of the CSU. The LSAMP program emphasizes activities designed to enhance graduate school preparedness, interventions for community college transfer students, and expanding opportunities for student engagement in international activities.

The CSUB-LSAMP program provides support to STEM undergraduate students, among other things, research funding, travel funds for the student to visit U.S. graduate degree granting institutions and/or to attend a professional meeting appropriate to the student's development, funds for other related activities, such as graduate school application and test fees, GRE preparation, and minor research materials costs.

Who Is Eligible?

Undergraduate students who face or have faced social, educational or economic barriers to careers in STEM. Students must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident. Students should be enrolled at CSUB in an undergraduate major in the College of Natural Sciences, Mathematics, and Engineering (NSME). How Do I Apply?

LSAMP is always accepting new students! We are pleased that you are considering becoming an CSUB-LSAMP student!

Undergraduate students who face or have faced social, educational or economic barriers to careers in STEM are eligible for CSUB-LSAMP. Students must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident. Students should be enrolled at CSUB in an undergraduate major in the College of Natural Sciences, Mathematics, and Engineering (NSME). Although the project's goals and anticipated outcomes are stated in terms of improving URM participation in STEM, it is important to emphasize that CSUB-LSAMP does not limit participation to URM students or provide URM students preference in admission.
