2024: Manuel Pastor
Dr. Manuel Pastor is a distinguished professor of sociology and American studies &
Ethnicity at the University of Southern California. His research focuses on economic,
environmental, and social issues facing low-income urban communities -- and the social
movements seeking to change those realities.
For the 20th Annual KIE Lecture, Dr.Pastor discussed the changing demographics and economic inequality in the United States, emphasizing the need for a new economic narrative that prioritizes equity and fairness.

2023: Safiya Noble
Dr. Safiya U. Noble is the David O. Sears Presidential Endowed Chair of Social Sciences
and Professor at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). She is the Director
of the Center on Resilience & Digital Justice and Co-Director of the Minderoo Initiative
on Tech & Power at UCLA. She currently serves as a Director of the UCLA DataX Initiative,
leading work in critical data studies for the campus.
