What is Summer Bridge?

Summer Bridge is an intensive two-week residential experience held on the CSUB campus before the fall semester.  Students will live in campus residential housing and fully immerse themselves in university life while building routines and skills that will support them throughout the academic year.  

Summer Bridge is part of CSUB’s long-standing commitment to student access, retention, and graduation success.

Summer Bridge participants are prioritized for receiving the EOP grant for the academic year.

Goals of Summer Bridge:

The goals of CSUB’s Summer Bridge Program are to:

  • Provide an opportunity to explore university resources
  • Build a strong sense of community among EOP students and staff
  • Positively influences students’ views on higher education
  • Raise awareness about the academic and social expectations of college life
  • Boost students’ self-esteem and confidence in navigating university challenges

 Summer Bridge is available to EOP students who have submitted their Intent to Enroll and EOP New Student Agreement.

 

What Students Can Expect:
  • Live on campus for two weeks
  • Practice independence and time management
  • College-level expectations and classroom norms
  • Study skills and learning strategies
  • Critical thinking and academic engagement
 
How to Apply:
  • If admitted to CSUB and EOP, you can complete the online Summer Bridge Application HERE.  The application filing period is March 15th – June 1st. 
  • We will contact students once final decisions have been made to let you know the status of your application.  Selected participants are required to attend the Summer Bridge orientation. More information about this will be forthcoming.
  • NOTE: All Summer Bridge participants will be participating in New Student Orientation on Tuesday, July 7, 2026. Please register accordingly.

Summer Bridge Q&A

Who is eligible for Summer Bridge?

Summer Bridge is designed primarily for incoming first-year students who have submitted their Intent to Enroll and EOP New Student Agreement.

Is Summer Bridge required?

Participation requirements vary by student status and EOP guidelines.  All first-time freshman students are encouraged to participate.  Any student offered Special Admissions by the EOP Office is required to attend Summer Bridge.

Is housing provided during the program?

Yes.  Summer Bridge is a two-week residential program, and participants live on campus Sunday - Thursday during the experience.

How long is the program?

Summer Bridge is a two-week residential experience scheduled from June 28th to July 9th, 2026, Sunday – Thursday.  Students are expected to be in class and participating in on-campus activities from 9:00 am – 6:00 pm daily. 

Is there a cost to participate?

Summer Bridge is FREE!

How many students can participate in Summer Bridge?

A maximum of 100 newly admitted EOP first-year students will be admitted into the Summer Bridge program.  All applications received will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis. 

What should students bring?

Students will receive a detailed packing list prior to arrival, including essentials for campus living and academic materials.

Will I earn college credit?

Yes, students will receive 3 units of elective credit towards graduation. 

What happens after Summer Bridge ends?

Students transition directly into the fall semester with continued EOP support, educational counseling, mentoring, and engagement opportunities throughout the semester.

Am I required to attend Roll Call and Summer Bridge?

Roll Call will take place during Summer Bridge.  Bridge students are not required to register for Roll Call.

How does Summer Bridge help with long-term success?

Students who participated often report increased confidence, stronger academic habits, meaningful friendships, and a clearer understanding of how to navigate campus resources.

New Student Orientation is happening during Summer Bridge. What do I do?

All students attending Summer Bridge will attend orientation on Tuesday, July 7th.  Please register for the New Student Orientation date starting May 11th.
