Construction on the Telecommunications Infrastructure Project will begin the week of August 30, 2004. The General Contractor for this project is AMI Electrical and Telecom, Inc. of Anaheim, California. The Construction Manager representing the campus is Mike O’Donnell from the firm of PCM Construction Management located in Encino California. It is expected that this will be a 1-year project which effectively began June 29, 2004 and should be completed by July 1, 2005.

The first phase of construction will include outside directional boring and trenching that will occur along the north side of Student Way from the Residence Halls to Runner Park during daylight hours. Also included in the first phase will be the work of pulling cable beginning inside Building 10 (Student Services) to occur during nighttime hours from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. and supervised by the university’s construction manager.

If you should have a problem during construction or an issue with safety, please contact the university construction manager, Mike O’Donnell at extension 5879 or Pat Jacobs, Director of Facilities Planning for the campus at extension 2483.

We apologize in advance for any inconvenience this potentially disruptive construction may cause, however you can look forward to a noticeable enhancement of computer and telecommunications capabilities upon completion of this project.

Please check this web site periodically as we will be updating the status of the work on a routine basis.

  UPDATES:
January 25, 2006

Work outside the buildings has been completed. We were able to bore through the soil rather than trench to lay the necessary cable. This method, which CSUB was the first campus to use, prevented a large amount of disruption and disarray as well as saving the campus a large sum of money.

Work has now been completed in Buildings 5, 10, 31, 38, and 39A. Although we are continuing to have some problems with the contractor and some of the subcontractors, we are attempting to work through these issues.

Work is now progressing in Buildings 32, 34, and 43, as well as miscellaneous infrastructure work that continues campus-wide.

November 16, 2004 As part of the Telecommunications Infrastructure Project, a portion of
Roadrunner Drive and Student Way from the Southeast entry of Parking Lot
"E" to the Northwest entry of Parking Lot "E" will be closed from
Thursday, November 18th through Thursday, December 2nd. During this
period of time Parking Lot "E" will remain open and through traffic will
be routed along the perimeter of the parking lot. It is suggested that
students, faculty and staff enter the campus via Roadrunner Drive only to
access Parking Lots "I" or "E."

Thank you in advance for your patience during this disruptive process.

October 1, 2004 Because of the Telecom Infrastructure build out, the two, 20-minute loading zone areas between the central plant and nursing will be unavailable for approximately 4 months. If you have any questions regarding the unavailability of these loading zones please direct them to Pat Jacobs, Director of Facilities Planning.

Please notify your staff of the unavailability of these loading zones.

September 10, 2004 Interior work on the Telecommunications Infrastructure is scheduled to begin in the Education building on Sunday, September 12th at 10:00 p.m. Work inside your building will take place every weeknight/morning during the hours of 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. until approximately October 15, 2004.

While the University will have inspectors on site during the work, employees are urged to not leave valuables and/or keepsakes in their workspace during this period of time. Please contact the University's Project Manager, Mike O'Donnell at ext. 6359, or Pat Jacobs at ext. 2483 if you have any questions or issues arise during this project. We appreciate your cooperation during this potentially disruptive project.
August 26, 2004 Work is scheduled to begin on the Telecommunications Infrastructure Project Monday August 30. The first items of work will include directional boring on the outside of Building 11 ( Plant Operations) between Runner Park on the East and Building 24 (Residence Hall A) on the West, and pulling new cables inside Building 10 (Student Administration). The outside work will occur during daylight hours, while the inside work will be from 10:00PM to 6:00AM. It is anticipated that the work in Building 10 will be ongoing for about 4 weeks and will involve activity in each office within the building. While the University will have inspectors on site during the work, employees are urged to not leave valuables and/or keepsakes in their workspace during this period of time. Please contact the University's Project Manager, Mike O'Donnell at 6359, or Pat Jacobs at extension 2483 if you have any questions or issues arise during this project. We appreciate your cooperation during this potentially disruptive project.

This is the first of what we envision as regular and ongoing communications with the campus community regarding this project. In addition to these regular email communications a WEB page has been created for this project and will be updated as work progresses and situations change. The URL for this WEB page is: http://www.csub.edu/tii/ Also, before work begins in a building, signs will be posted on building entrance doors informing building occupants and providing them with contact information. An example of the signs that will be placed on building entrance doors is attached to this email. Any suggestions regarding the kind of information folks would like to see in these communications would be appreciated.
