first year connections you need to SUCCEED!

Welcome from the
Program Director & Coordinator

The First-Year Experience Program (FYE) welcomes you to California State University, Bakersfield. The first year of college presents many opportunities as well as challenges, and the FYE Office is here to help you make the most of them all. The FYE Program is here to help you make a successful transition from high school to college.

The First-Year Experience Program begins with CSUB 101, a seminar course which is required of all first-time freshman students and introduces you to important issues for academic success and personal achievement at CSUB. To ensure your continued success at CSUB, the program includes two follow-up classes, CSUB 103 “Passions” class and CSUB 105 “Ambassadors” class. Both courses provide you with the opportunity to participate in this year’s theme – homelessness. By participating in this program, you will not only learn about homelessness across the country and in your community, but you will also be able to make a difference and do something about it through community engagement opportunities.

We look forward to working with you to make your college experience here at CSUB both successful and meaningful. Go Runners!
