April 26, 2010 - The CSUB Alumni Association once again pops the cork and twists the cap for its annual Party in the Park to be held Friday, May 7 from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. at CSUB Alumni Park. The fun-filled evening will feature some of California's finest wines and micro-brews complemented by great food and fun.

Now in its 14th year, the event has become one of the Central Valley's premier wine-tasting extravaganzas. In all, more than 20 wineries are anticipated including the likes of Robert Hall, Ventana, Pfendler Vineyards, Starr Ranch, Bell Hill, in addition to local brewer favorites Lengthwise, Kern River Brewing, and selections from Advanced Beverage Company. Guests will receive two glasses - one for wine and one for beer - courtesy of the CSUB Alumni Association and Stella Artois.

Between sips, guests can delight their palates with a variety of hors d'oeuvres such as shaved prime rib on ficelle, chicken on phyllo crisp, goat cheese crustini, and array of cheeses, fruits, vegetables, and desserts.

Last year, Party in the Park attracted 600 guests and raised $7,000 for the Alumni Scholarship Fund.

"This event gives everyone an opportunity to discover - or rediscover - CSUB and connect with friends for a great cause," said Shannon Hill, CSUB alumni relations director. "Without the event, deserving students might have difficulty affording a university education."

Party in the Park precedes the annual Bakersfield Jazz Festival. Cost for the tasting is $40 in advance or $50 the day of the event, if tickets are available. A weekend package that includes both Party in the Park and the Bakersfield Jazz Festival is available for pre-purchase only. The package price for Friday's events is $70 or enjoys the entire weekend for $95.
