Sept. 13, 2010 - The California State University, Bakersfield Music Department is pleased to announce that New York-based guitarist/composer Jonathan Kreisberg will present the first Legends of Jazz Concert of the 2010-2011 concert season. The concert takes place on Friday, Oct. 8, 2010 with a clinic and concert in the Doré Theatre.

At 3 p.m., Kreisberg will present a clinic on his career, practice methods and compositions in the Doré Theatre. The clinic is free and open to the public.

At 8 p.m., Kreisberg will take the stage with his quartet - including Will Vinson (saxophone and piano), Phil Donkin (double-bass) and Mark Ferber (drums) - in support of their most recent release "South of Everywhere." Tickets can be obtained at the Doré Theatre box office 45 minutes before show time on the night of the event. Ticket prices are $15 general admission, $12 seniors 60+, and $8 for students w/ID, faculty, staff and alumni.

Jim Scully, interim Director of Jazz Studies at CSUB, is excited to host Kreisberg. "I was first turned on to Kreisberg by a guitar student of mine and was just floored when I listened to his recording "Nine Stories Wide." He is a technically gifted player - no doubt - but he uses that technique to always explore the most musical phrase he can muster. The line - the tune - is always foremost in his mind. He is a very special player and his compositions are just spectacularly exciting. We are very happy to be able to bring him and his great quartet of musicians to Bakersfield for this Legends of Jazz event."
