The California State University, Bakersfield Doré Theater will come alive with music Saturday, Jan. 10, at 7:30 p.m. when the Tea Rose String Quartet performs for the first time at CSUB. Comprised of leading Bakersfield Symphony Orchestra string musicians, the quartet will perform a program featuring Tchaikovsky's String Quartet No. 3 in E flat minor, Op. 30 and Shostakovich's String Quartet No. 1, Op. 49.
The Tea Rose Quartet has been performing together for over two years and recently participated in the California Chamber Music Institute at University of the Pacific in Stockton. The group includes violinists Donna Fraser and Julie Lawson-Haney, violist Paulette Shires, and cellist Karen Blockley.
"This is a tremendous opportunity to have some of the symphony's best musicians playing great chamber music literature on campus," said Joel Haney, CSUB professor of music. "We are very excited to host this first-time performance."
Tickets are $10 for general admission and $6 for senior citizens and students with identification. Tickets can be purchased at the ticket window the night of the performance. For more information contact Haney at (661) 654-2541. Free parking will be available in front of the Doré Theater.
