June 3, 2009 - California State University, Bakersfield and the CSUB Antelope Valley Center will move to a compressed summer operating schedule beginning June 15 through August 28, with most facilities closing on Fridays. The majority of offices on campus will be open 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
The exception to this schedule will be the weeks of June 29 - July 3 and July 27 - July 31 when the campuses will operate on a normal eight-hour, Monday - Friday schedule to comply with applicable labor laws.
As in past summers, this schedule enables the university to realize substantial budget savings by reducing energy consumption. University officials indicated the expected energy savings from the compressed work schedules to be approximately $42,500.
"The cost savings are especially important this year as we anticipate state budget reductions," said President Horace Mitchell. "The savings will assist in meeting our anticipated budget cuts and is part of the cost savings measures aimed at maintaining jobs and student access to quality programs."
Summer school courses will not be impacted by the compressed operating schedule as no classes have been scheduled on Fridays.
