June 1, 2009 - The fourth annual "Brains of Bakersfield," a charitable event hosted by the California State University, Bakersfield men's soccer team, crowned a winner on Saturday night (May 30). The winning team, 49th Parallel, was comprised largely of CSUB faculty from the School of Humanities and Social Sciences and alumni. The winners, pictured left to right, included Leon Walker, Rachel Bzostek, Karen Stocker, Doreen Anderson-Facile, Scott Galland, Beth Rienzi, Rhonda Dugan, Judith Pratt, and Bob Price.
"Brains of Bakersfield" is based on the popular British trivia game "Quiz Night," commonly played in pubs and on television. Eighteen teams competed for this year's title.
Proceeds from the event will be shared between the soccer teams and Ricky's Retreat, a group home and community center for people with AIDS. Soccer coach Simon Tobin said approximately $2,000 was raised.
