June 9, 2009 - Three California State University, Bakersfield students have been awarded scholarships by The Bakersfield Californian. Communication majors Hillary Haenes, Raquel Wilder and Sean Wisheropp each received scholarships from the newspaper to assist with school expenses.
"These students represent the best of the communications department, and are worthy of being recognized as scholarship winners," said Judith Pratt, a CSUB communications professor who served on the selection committee with fellow professor John Emig and Christine Peterson, city editor for The Bakersfield Californian. "We are very proud of their work as students and know they will go on to outstanding careers."
The students were selected based on their high grade point averages and intent to pursue a career in communications.
The scholarships are awarded annually. Throughout the past 20 years, The Bakersfield Californian has awarded more than $30,000 to communications students. Wilder is the first student from CSUB's Antelope Valley Center to receive the award.
