September 29, 2009 - The California State University, Bakersfield Geology Club is hosting geologist Gail Ashley, professor at Rutgers University, on Friday, Oct. 2, at 4 p.m. in Science Building III, room 108.
Ashley's presentation, entitled "The Paleoclimatic Framework of Human Evolution," will look at climate variability, or frequency of climate change, as an important factor of natural selection. Ashley's extensive work in Olduvai Gorge in Tanzania and in Kenya will provide examples of successful reconstructed environments.
"We are very excited to have Professor Ashley here at CSUB," said Dirk Baron, CSUB geology professor. "This event will be interesting not only to students and professional geologists, but also anyone interested in climate variability."
The lecture is free and open to the public followed by a reception with light refreshments.
