November 5, 2009 - The California State University, Bakersfield Children's Art Institute (CAI) will showcase student artwork featured in its 2010 Children's Art Institute Calendar Nov. 10-19 at the Alta One Federal Credit Union, 11211 River Run Blvd. The art display features the work of kindergarten through sixth grade students from schools throughout Kern County.
"These calendars are a compilation of student work done during the 2008-09 school year," said Dianne Turner, professor of art education at CSUB. "We wanted to not only show the art featured in the calendars, but also to display it in a location where everyone could enjoy the students' creativity. AltaOne Federal Credit Union has been a great partner for this effort."
CAI's mission strives to educate and support the enhancement of children's art in schools. Prospective classroom teachers from CSUB help students explore various media, art history and art themes. Student artwork pieces selected to appear in the calendar are obtained through participation in CAI summer programs, school programs and direct solicitation of previous student participants. Students selected for inclusion in the calendar were awarded art supplies, gift cards and restaurant gift certificates donated from area merchants.
Calendars may be purchased for $6 from Russo's Bookstore at the Marketplace shopping center, 9000 Ming Avenue, #I-4. Sales from the calendars benefit CAI.
