Employment/Recruitment General Information

CSUB Human Resources  assists the University in the planning and completion of campus Staff and Management (MPP) recruitments;  coordinates the recruitment process; and assists the hiring department throughout the selection/hiring process.  Hiring departments should consult the Hiring Dept Recruitment Process website for specific information on the hiring process.

Job Posting/Processing Information

All job postings are available to campus employees through the campus E-mail system.  All positions are open for a minimum of two weeks.  Job Announcement bulletins cannot be mailed to individuals unless it is an out of town address.  All vacant staff positions, except for short-term positions, are posted in the Information Center located outside the Office of Human Resources and listed on the Job Line (654-2267).  Positions are also advertised in the Sunday edition of the Bakersfield Californian.

Applicant Information

  • Applications for employment are only accepted for vacant positions as they occur. 

  • A separate application packet is required for each position. 

  • The correct JOB TITLE and JOB NUMBER must appear on the application.

  • Photocopied applications (with specific Job Title/Number) should be used if applying for more than one position. 

  • Resumes are welcome, but will not be accepted in place of the Official Application Form. 

  • All positions requiring typing or shorthand require current (within 2 years) certification of speed and accuracy.  A copy of this certification must be attached to the application packet.  A list of Typing Certificate Test Locations is available here (click for list).

  • The Office of Human Resources does not provide photocopying services.

Additional Information

Official California State University, Bakersfield application forms must be completed in full and received in the CSUB Personnel Office by 5:00 p.m. on, or postmarked by, the specified closing date (filing deadline date) unless otherwise indicated.  E-mailed applications or resumes will not be accepted.  The "filing deadline date" is the final date for accepting applications.  No applications are reviewed until the closing date is passed.

Appointments

All job appointments are based on the applicant's ability and fitness for the position.  Selections and appointments are determined by the procedures specified in CSUB's Policies and Procedures for the Recruitment, Selection and Appointment of Non-Academic and Administrative Employees. It is the University's established policy to select the best qualified applicant.

Appointments are normally made at the beginning of a salary range, with advanced salary appointments possible only upon authorization from the University President.  Advanced-salary appointments cannot be approved unless there is significant difficulty in filling a position and a person of advanced qualifications is available.



Employment Eligibility

It is the policy of California State University, Bakersfield to hire only United States citizens and aliens lawfully authorized to work in the United States.  Federal law requires proof of identity and work eligibility before an applicant can be employed in the United States. 

Prospective employees must be able to provide an original document or documents which establish identity and employment eligibility within 3 business days of the date employment begins.  You will be provided with a list of acceptable documents at the time of employment. 

In addition, State regulations requires that:

  • all employees present a valid Social Security card in order to receive a paycheck.  The name on the card must match exactly the name the employee is using.
  • every employee sign the Oath of Allegiance prior to commencing the duties of his/her State employment, except legally employed non citizens. These individuals are required to sign the Declaration of Permission to Work.
