Dr. Robert Provencio Since coming to Bakersfield in 1988 Provencio has conducted clinics and workshops for high school, collegiate, church, and professional choirs and their conductors in Arizona, California, Colorado, Illinois, Minnesota, Nevada, New Mexico, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas, Utah, Washington D.C., Wisconsin, and Wyoming. Dr. Provencio has appeared professionally at meetings of the American Choral Directors Association, the College Music Society, the National Association of Church Musicians, and at various universities from Minnesota to Texas and California to New York. His choirs have toured throughout the United States, Mexico, and Australia and have twice been featured in Carnegie Hall. Dr. Provencio serves on the editorial board of the Choral Journal, the national publication of the American Choral Directors Association, and also on the Board of Governors of the National Association of Church Musicians; he chairs the NACM publications committee. He is currently working on two monograph projects: one entitled Releasing the Artist Within and another on choral literature and performance practices. His translation of The History of the Youth Choir & Orchestra Movement in Venezuela was serialized in the International Choral Bulletin. Provencio has been elected Music Educator of the Year and University Music Educator of the Year by the California Music Educators Association. He was named the outstanding Hispanic alumnus from Texas State University and his biography is currently listed in Who's Who in America and Who's Who in the World. In addition to his responsibilities at the University, Dr. Provencio serves the First Presbyterian Church of Bakersfield as its Minister of Music and he is also chairman of the Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center Board. He is in constant demand as an adjudicator, clinician, and consultant to schools, churches, and community organizations. Robert Provencio resides in Bakersfield, California along with his wife Linda and their four wonderful children. |
