I was born in Mexicali, Baja California and grew up in Calexico. I attended Imperial Valley College and later transferred to CSU, Chico. While attending CSU, Chico, I graduated with a BS in Psychology with an emphasis in Bilingual/Bi-Cultural Counseling. I later moved to Bakersfield where I attended CSU, Bakersfield where I received a masters in Educational Administration. I was the STAAR Program counselor from 1987-1995 and then became the Coordinator. Currently I am involved with a vast amount of clubs and organizations in Bakersfield.
I'm currently a CSUB club/organization advisor for Student Activities Club (SAC), Trio Parapro Club (TPC), Movimieto Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlan (MEChA), Mexica Tiahui Ballet Folklorico, Mariachi Cuicatli and Theta Sigma Chi (for 10 years). Off campus I'm active with Las Fiestas Inc. for 8 years, Western Association of Educational Opportunity Personnel (WESTOP) for 16 years, Kern Adult Literacy Council ESL/Citizenship Advisory Board for 4 years, Kern County Hispanic Educators for 6 years, ANGF executive board for 3 years, and many other organizations.
