Chaco Canyon was a major center of Ansazi culture between approximately 900 and 1200 AD. "Downtown Chaco" and the surrounding area were most likely ceremonial sites for the greater Chacoan culture in the four corners area of the south western United States. But they all left in a very short period of time and no one really knows why. What they left behind has amazed and confounded both scientist and historians ever since. These images are of and about my experiences at Chaco. As I wandered over the remnants of this ancient culture I couldn’t help but feel the voices and images of the place. If rocks and Kivas can in fact absorb the joys and horrors of our human existence, then surely Chaco Canyon is alive with them.
