SPSS
has many graphing tools. These are located in the
“Graphs” menu on the top of every window.
There
are two types of graphs:
(1)
The Legacy Dialogs graphs can be obtained by clicking on “Graphs” menu,
selecting “Legacy Dialogs” and selecting the type of desired graph. Examples of
charts include bar, line, pie, box plot, and histogram. These graphs are edited
by double clicking on the graph and this opens the Chart Editor Window.
Alternatively, right click on the chart and select “Edit Content” and then
select “In separate window”. This also opens the Chart Editor Window.
(2) The Interactive graphs can be obtained by
clicking on “Graphs” menu and selecting “Legacy Dialogs” and then
“Interactive”. The type of desired graphs (e.g. bar, dot, pie, box plot and
histogram) can be selected. Interactive graphs are edited by double-clicking on
the graph and this opens the Chart Editor Window. Note that you can also
right-click on the chart and select “Edit Content” and then select “In separate
window”.
Both Legacy Dialogs graphs and Interactive graphs
are similar in appearance. Graphs (like bar chart, dot diagram, and pie chart)
can also be created for a variable in pivot table. To do this, double-click on
the pivot table to edit the table in output viewer. Right click on the variable
name and select the desired graph. This is illustrated by the math Assessment
data set.
