Sustainability at CSUB

What is Sustainability?

Sustainability is defined as: "development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs." Environmental sustainability is broad and has intersections with many areas, including academics, food, energy, waste, transportation, water, and community engagement.

At CSU Bakersfield, being sustainable means reducing waste, using water responsibly, being energy efficient, using sustainable transportation, promoting green jobs, and much more.

CSU Bakersfield is a member of the Association for Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE). AASHE explains the many applications of and connections to sustainability here:

In 2018, CSU Bakersfield ranked Silver in the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System (STARS) for its commitment to reducing its environmental impact.
