CSUB Nursing Department to Sponsor First-Ever Kern County Health Careers Conference

The Nursing Department at California State University, Bakersfield will sponsor the first-ever Kern County Health Careers Conference at the Bakersfield High School Harvey Auditorium on from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 9. It is free and open to the public, though targeted for Kern County middle school and high school students.

“Selecting a career choice for students can be a very daunting task. Healthcare career options are a wonderful choice to be able to care for others and give back to our community. We hope our presentation inspires students to consider some of the careers highlighted,” said the Assistant Professor for the Department of Nursing, Krystal Ball (MSN/ED, RN).

The CSUB Department of Nursing pursues innovative ways to advance nursing practice and address the growing complexities associated with creating a healthier population in the Central Valley.

The conference will give students exposure to many different career fields, including nursing, physical therapy, physician, public health, social work and EMT medicine. Presentations will provide information on the average salary, training and education required and a snapshot of what a typical day looks like for each career. Additionally, attendees will have the chance to participate in hands-on exercises, enjoy a free lunch and interact with surprise guests.

The Department of Nursing at CSUB has offered a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree since the University opened its doors in 1970. Over the past 48 years, more than 2,500 students have completed a BSN at CSUB. It remains the only public university in the region where students can earn a BSN. The Department of Nursing at CSUB also offers Master of Science/Family Nurse Practitioner program.

The conference is made possible through a grant provided by the Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development. Those interested in attending the conference can register for free tickets here.
