CSUB Celebrates Students, Alumni and More with 2019 Homecoming Week

One of the most anticipated events at California State University, Bakersfield is Homecoming Week, and it’s almost that time again. Homecoming Week has something for everyone, whether you’re at the Bakersfield campus or Antelope Valley campus, alumni of the University or a member of the community.

Homecoming Week starts with the Alumni Hall of Fame Gala at the Seven Oaks Country Club on Friday, Feb. 15. The ceremony will induct four individuals including: Charlotte Brandt; Tom Corson; Jeff Huckaby; and Gene Tackett. They will be recognized for their significant contributions in their chosen field and/or in the community.

“We are excited that the Alumni Hall of Fame Gala has become a tradition among Homecoming activities and are honored to induct these four individuals,” said Director of Alumni Engagement, Sarah Hendrick.

Monday, Feb. 18, will officially commence the week with activities for the campus community from Campus Programming. Events will include voting for Homecoming Court, campus clean-up, as well as a BBQ and a DJ at the Student Union Patio. CSUB and CSUB Antelope Valley will celebrate with Spirit Days by wearing their CSUB gear on Tuesday, Feb. 19 and Wednesday, Feb. 20.

A Pep Rally and Lip Sync Battle will be held in Icardo Center on Thursday, Feb. 21 at 6 p.m. Teams will compete in a lip sync battle, learn chants and Homecoming Court finalists will be announced.

The Alumni Association will also be very involved throughout the week with a luncheon for alumni who work on campus and the Rising Runner Ceremony and a panel discussion, which will allow students to hear alumni stories from each academic school and hear about their journey from CSUB to career.

The week will end with the main event on Saturday, Feb. 23. There will be a Homecoming Family BBQ, on the Science III lawn, beginning at 5 p.m., with the Homecoming Men’s Basketball game against California Baptist at 7 p.m. The first 200 alumni who RSVP to alumni@csub.edu will also receive free tickets to the game.

The Homecoming ceremony and the crowning of King and Queen will take place during halftime. Students can also attend the Homecoming Dance after the game has ended, to take place at the Bakersfield Marriott at the Convention Center.

“It’s a special time of the year for our faculty, staff, students and alumni to celebrate the spirit of CSUB. We are excited as more of our students and alumni are becoming engaged with our Homecoming events. As our Homecoming theme says, ‘It’s Good to be Home,’” said Vice President for Student Affairs, Dr. Thomas Wallace.
