CSUB Athletics, Alumni Bring Spirit to Kern County with Second Annual Caravan Day

California State University, Bakersfield is excited to announce its second annual Caravan Day through Bakersfield and Kern County communities on Saturday, August 18. The Spirit Rally on wheels will feature new CSUB President Lynnette Zelezny, coaches from the Athletics Department and other CSUB representatives.

“We are all so thrilled to have the opportunity to travel to our wonderful communities and spread the word about the great things happening at CSU Bakersfield,” said President Lynnette Zelezny.  “The support of people throughout our region is so important to our success.

“When people hear Kern County, the first thing we want them to think about are the ‘Runners and CSU Bakersfield. The CSUB Athletics Department is on the rise, and there is no limit to what we can accomplish with the support of our community,” said Athletics Director Kenneth “Ziggy” Siegfried.

In addition to President Zelezny and Siegfried, the Caravan will feature men’s basketball coach Rod Barnes, baseball coach Jeremy Beard and Director of Golf Meghan Thomason speaking about their programs for the upcoming year.

Associated Students, Inc. Vice President Olly Lopez will speak about the student experience at CSUB, and CSUB Alumni Association President Justin Salters will talk about the importance of engaged alumni to CSUB’s efforts.

The Caravan Day will stop in Taft, Shafter, Delano and will conclude at Lengthwise in Bakersfield. The schedule is as follows:

  • 10 a.m. – West Side Recreation & Park District in Taft (500 Cascade Pl, Taft, CA 93268)
  • 12 p.m. – Tony’s Pizza in Delano (502 County Line Rd, Delano, CA 93215)
  • 2:30 p.m. – Snacks at Mannel Park in Shafter (Mannel Park, Shafter, 93263)
  • 4 p.m. – Lengthwise at The Marketplace in Bakersfield (900 Ming Avenue)
  • 5:30 p.m. – CSUB Volleyball Blue & Gold Scrimmage at Icardo Center (9001 Stockdale Highway)
