CSUB’s Instrumental Music Program Announces Trumpet Masterclass

The Instrumental Music Program at California State University, Bakersfield is hosting a Trumpet Masterclass with legendary trumpet artist and educator Edward Carroll at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 3, in Music Building 127.

During the day, Carroll will listen and critique trumpet majors. He also will give a public presentation on the art of trumpet performance at 11 a.m. Admission is free, and local trumpet players and teachers are welcome.

Carroll’s begin his career as a 21-year-old orchestral musician. He was appointed instructor of trumpet and coordinator of brass studies at the California Institute of the Arts in 2001 after serving as the international chair of brass studies at London’s Royal Academy of Music and professor of trumpet at the Rotterdam (NL) Conservatory. He also teaches at Dartmouth College in New Hampshire and was appointed to the Bard Conservatory chamber music faculty in 2012.

Professor Carroll has given masterclasses at many of the world’s leading music schools, including the Juilliard School, the Eastman School of Music, the Curtis Institute of Music, the Interlochen Arts Academy, Northwestern and Rice universities, the Breman Trumpet Academy, the Conservatories of St. Petersburg “Rimsky-Korsakov,” Sofia, Shanghai, Cologne and at the Royal Northern College of Music (Manchester). He is founder and director of the Center for Advanced Musical Studies at Chosen Vale.
