CSUB Homecoming Features Variety of Events For Alumni, Students, Community

California State University, Bakersfield will celebrate its annual Homecoming with a number of activities for alumni, students, and the community from Feb. 16- 24. The theme for this year’s Homecoming is “It’s Good To Be Home.”

The CSU Bakersfield Alumni Association is excited for Homecoming Week,” said Carla Barrientos, president of the CSUB Alumni Association Board of Directors. “We appreciate the opportunity to celebrate our campus and reconnect with alumni and friends.”

Barrientos encouraged alumni to attend the CSUB Alumni Association’s pre-game celebration at Lengthwise Marketplace on Saturday, Feb. 24, starting at 4 p.m. and then cheer on the men’s basketball team in its game against Seattle U.

In addition to the pre-game celebration on Feb. 24, a campus barbecue will be held from 4-5:30 p.m. at the Icardo Center lawn.

The week will officially begin with the Alumni Hall of Fame gala, which allows the CSUB Alumni Association to recognize and celebrate the University’s accomplished and diverse alumni. The dinner will be held at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16, at the Bakersfield Country Club. Tickets can be purchased by calling (661) 654-3211.

This year’s CSUB Alumni Hall of Fame inductees are:

  • Jeremy Adams (1999, 2000), a Bakersfield High School civics teacher and lecturer at

    CSUB;

  • Bryan Burrow (2000), chief operations officer at Sierra School Equipment Co. and a

    founder of the CSUB Alumni Hall of Fame;

  • Edward Paine (1980), founder of the California Ivy League Preparatory Academy;

“Homecoming is a wonderful time to exude Runner pride and reunite with CSUB alumni,” said

CSUB Vice President for Student Affairs Dr. Thomas Wallace.

Debbie Wood (1982, 2000), a public health nurse who also has taught at the CSUB Nursing Program for almost 20 years.

  • Saturday, Feb. 17
    o Baseball game against UC Davis, 1 p.m. at Hardt Field
    o Men’s basketball game against Grand Canyon, 7 p.m. at Icardo Center

  • Sunday, Feb. 18
    o Baseball game against UC Davis, noon at Hardt Field

  • Monday, Feb. 19

o Campus clean-up event, noon to 1 p.m. at Runner Park. Homecoming Court

o Homecoming kick-off barbecue, 1:30 p.m. at the Student Union Patio o Baseball game against St. Mary’s, 4 p.m. at Hardt Field

  • Tuesday, Feb. 20
    o Food distribution, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Stockdale Court o Antelope Valley Spirit Day, 11 a.m.

  • Wednesday, Feb. 21

o Faculty and staff alumni luncheon, 11:30 a.m. at the Student Recreation Center

o A Rising Runner ceremony an Alumni Rising Runner programs celebrates CSUB

graduates of the past 10 years who are making an impact in their career. This years’s Rising Runners are Dereck Abbot, vice president of community development and resource planning at Tejon Ranch; Katie O’Sullivan, a lecturer at CSUB who teaches planetary geology, geo chemistry and physical geology; Michael Pawloski, a medical social worker for Hoffman Hospice; and Ryan Drakos, an accounting manager at Wonderful Pistachios & Almonds and an adjunct lecturer at CSUB, teaching organizational behavior and stragegic management.

Saturday, Feb. 24
o Homecoming pre-game barbecue, 4-5:30 p.m. at the Icardo Center lawn o Basketball game against Seattle U, 6 p.m. at the Icardo Center
o Homecoming Dance, 9:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. at the Bakersfield Marriott at the
