CSU Bakersfield Named One of 100 Most Affordable Universities in America

California State University, Bakersfield has been named one of the Most  Affordable Colleges by Best Value Schools, coming in at number six in “The 100 Most Affordable Universities in America 2018.”

“When this ranking on affordability is paired with our #3 ranking for upward mobility of our students in a 2017 Equality of Opportunity Project report, it validates our commitment to access, affordability, quality, and degree completion,” said CSUB President Dr. Horace Mitchell.

“CSU Bakersfield earns its top affordable college ranking with an astonishingly low price tag of just over $6k per semester,” according to Best Value Schools. “With a state-of-the art research and media center, theaters, galleries, and a recreation center devoted to the schools Division I athletic teams, CSUB plays a pivotal role amidst Central California’s rural communities by tackling its mission to develop the intellectual and personal potential of each undergrad.”

Best Value Schools also noted that CSUB’s “respect for its students’ diverse interests and goals is most evident in the university’s list of 50+ degree programs, which range from electrical engineering to marketing.”

To be selected, Best Value Schools created a list of all public and private (non-profit), four-year colleges and universities in the U.S. that offer bachelor’s degree or above. This includes “universities” specifically as mid- to large-size institutions.

The search was limited to those with more than 4,000 undergraduate students. Due to focusing on traditional academic programs, online and vocational colleges were excluded from the lists as well.  Each university’s net cost was collected by the National Center for Education Statistics to decipher the rankings for all postsecondary institutions in the U.S. Only the 100 universities with the lowest net prices made the final list.

The Best Value Schools ranking is the latest honor for CSUB.  Under President Mitchell’s leadership, CSUB has received a number of accolades, including:
