CSUB to Offer Free Income Tax Preparation Services

Beginning Saturday, February 3, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., students, faculty, staff, and community members, will have the opportunity to take advantage of free income tax preparation services provided by California State University, Bakersfield accounting student volunteers. These students are fully trained and passed certification tests required by the IRS.

CSUB’s Office of the President, the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs, and the School of Business and Public Administration will partner with Community Action Partnership of Kern’s (CAPK) Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program to provide free tax preparation services.

These free tax preparations provide not only any community members but also students, staff, and faculty with complete tax returns in a timely fashion, enabling them to receive proper tax credits and refunds,” said Dr. Byoung (Benjamin) Bae, director and site coordinator of CSUB VITA program. “Without this free service, many low-income families would not have their taxes done due to the up-front expense with private tax preparation companies or will be paying $100.00-$300.00 to have their taxes prepared elsewhere.”

Services will be provided on campus and by appointment only every Saturday through April 14 at the Business Development Center Room A218. Those interested are encouraged to call the 211 Kern County appointment line or (661) 654-3406 to make an appointment.
