CSUB’s Kegley Institute of Ethics to Launch Faculty Fellowship Program

The Kegley Institute of Ethics (KIE) at California State University, Bakersfield is launching a new Faculty Fellows Program. KIE is currently calling for applications for two faculty fellowships: one faculty fellowship awarding one course release for either the fall 2018 or spring 2019 semester, and another for a faculty fellowship awarding one summer stipend for summer 2018. Faculty members of all ranks are eligible to apply.

The Fellows Program is designed to support faculty members from the sciences, humanities, engineering, education, social sciences, and business. KIE is interested in supporting projects with clearly-defined ethical relevance and, in turn, supporting ethics-related research and pedagogy at California State University, Bakersfield.

Dr. Michael Burroughs, KIE Director, described the new Faculty Fellows Program as “another important step in supporting and continuing to create a community committed to ethics at California State University, Bakersfield. These Faculty Fellowships will provide faculty with valuable time to pursue, develop, and refine research and curricular projects relating to ethics.”

Priority will be given to proposals on topics including, but not limited to:

  • Ethics education, moral development, and social-emotional learning (in K-12 schooling and/or on campus)

  • Ethics and education in prisons

  • Ethics and law

  • Ethics and STEM

  • Ethics and healthcare

  • Ethics and business

  • Ethics, race, and identity

The KIE Fellows will present on their projects at a KIE event and provide a brief report on their fellowship activities at the conclusion of the fellowship. Faculty who have ongoing research projects and collaborations that would be significantly enhanced by this program also are welcome to apply.
